Anisha Baid
Anisha Baid is an artist and writer from Kolkata, India. Her practice and research explore the intersection of computer interfaces, corporate culture, and gendered labor. She works with found and archival materials, often sourced from the internet, to construct narratives that blend fiction and documentary. Her work examines the flat-scapes of the computer screen, decoding digital labor through the interface—a technological tool that transforms workspaces into image spaces.
She is the recipient of the Inlaks Fine Art Award (2021) and has received support from institutions such as the Inlaks Foundation, India Foundation for the Arts, and the Goethe Institut Bangalore. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Technical Collections Dresden, GIBCA Goteborg, and Landskrona Foto Museum in Sweden. She holds an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University (2024) and a Bachelor’s in Experimental Media Art from Srishti Institute of Art, Bangalore.
About Work
Anisha Baid’s Laptop Yoga is a series of staged photographs inspired by stock images found using the same keywords. This work is part of her recent performative explorations, where she recreates absurd stock photography poses with her laptop, reflecting on wellness culture within corporate environments. The series examines the laptop as a flexible tool, paralleling the expectations placed on the feminized human body to adapt and conform.
Through these reenactments, Baid critiques the intersection of technology, labor, and performativity, questioning how wellness is commodified in professional spaces. Laptop Yoga blurs the line between functionality and absurdity, highlighting the ways bodies and machines are disciplined within corporate culture.
