About Work

Alone Together is an ongoing series by photographer Sheetal Mallar, begun over a decade ago during a transitional phase in her life. Feeling uprooted, she turned to photography as a way to reconnect with her city—Bombay—and the people who offered her a sense of belonging. The series features intimate portraits of family and friends within their personal spaces, exploring how urban life shapes emotional states.

Mallar reflects on the meaning of home—whether it lies within four walls or in intangible connections beyond physical space. Her work questions themes of loneliness, isolation, and shared experience, peeling back layers to reveal the quiet, familiar emotions that bind us in a bustling, chaotic city.
