About Work
Mala Mukerjee’s photographic journey began as a childhood passion and gradually evolved into a lifelong profession. Encouraged by her mentors at London Guildhall University in the early 1990s, she launched her career with solo exhibitions of her Jantar Mantar series in London and Oxford (1992–1993), later showcasing them across major Indian cities (1994–1997).
Her work is unified by a deep exploration of color, texture, and form, capturing the essence of both the extraordinary and the everyday. She is particularly fascinated by the fleeting nature of light, using its transformations to uncover hidden stories within her subjects. Over the years, her focus has shifted towards abstract themes, maintaining a distinct artistic sensibility that highlights vibrant hues and intricate compositions. Her images reflect a balance between spontaneity and meticulous observation, transforming mundane objects into compelling visual narratives.
